I live in region BELA KRAJINA http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bela_krajina which is neer Croacia. I live in city Črnomelj in part named Loka ( u know “crazy” in spanish huahuahuahu). Every true “Belokranjka” (= girl from Bela Krajina) know how to do Belokranjska pogača. But I DON’ T 🙂 I don’t know how to do it cuz my mam is not from here, she’s from Prekmurje (part of Slovenia neer Austria and Hungary http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prekmurje http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prekmurian_dialect ) She never learned how to do it and so I also didn’t have oportunity to learn. So I decide that now is the time that I found out how to do this. Is really simple thing to do and really good to eat 😉 When I’ll make it i’ll proudlly show pictures xDD
Here is the recipe in english for “Belokranjska pogača” and for some other tradicional slovenian food.
Belokranjska pogača (salted cake)
1 kg flour
2 tbs salt
1 tbs sugar
2 tbs oil
2 packages of dried yeast
Approx. 0,7 l warm water
Mix all the ingredients and form a dough. Leave to rise for 30 minutes. Spread the dough evenly onto a baking tray, slice it into squares and glaze it with the beaten egg. The cake can be sprinkled with salt. Bake in a pre-heated oven for approximately 45 minutes at 200°C.
As I was looking more on internet I found that aparentlly english translation for Belokranjska pogača is “Slovenian flat bread with caraway” On top u can also add cheese and ham ( that’s in fact my fav. version cuz I don’t like so much caraway =p )
